Childhood Foods

I was watching HGTV the other night and saw "The Best Thing I Ever Ate/Childhood Foods"  so Terry and I started talking about what we remembered from our childhood that really spoke of home, comfort and memories.

For him it was his Mom's cinnamon rolls with icing. (He says icing and I say frosting)  The other thing was her chili followed by cheesecake with strawberries.  It reminded him of fall weather when the four brothers and Dad would be outdoors cutting wood, putting it on the splitter and stacking it to get ready for winter in northern Michigan.

For me, I thought of that little box of crinkle cut french fires that I would cook after school to eat while I watched "Dark Shadows" (which Johnny Depp (Barnabus Collins) is remaking, by the way).  Mom was not known for her cooking but she did make awesome fried chicken.  My sister (YFS/ Your favorite sister) shared the crispy chicken liver with Mom.  I never knew YFS liked that.  I sure didn't.   She also remembered Brown sugar Cinnamon Pop Tarts when she was in High School.

So, I asked my daughters.  They always got to request what they wanted for their Birthday dinners so I was expecting lasagna, nachos, homemade pizza, or clam chowder...the things they asked for then.  No... that's not what happened.  What I got was "Otter Pops" and Coco Wheats from daughters 2 and 3.  Daughter number one said "I'm pretty sure I was raised in the same house they were and I do not know what Otter Pops are."   She remembered good ole Kraft  mac and cheese while she watched Electric Company on TV.

So I had to look up Otter Pops.   Oh, yeah, now I know.  They were right.  We had those all summer, every summer. You could get a box of 100 for $2.99 I swear.

So be careful what you ask your children.  The answers are never what you expect.

Pajama Parties in the 60s

When I was in middle school, (Junior High to my generation) and in High School, pajama parties were very common.   I remember telling my oldest daughter about those girl parties and she did try a time or two, but they really never caught on.  She would have a couple of friends over, but not the dozen or so I had.  Maybe it was a generational thing.

Our PJ parties were usually on a Friday night at one of the girlfriend's houses.  In my case, we would have about a dozen girls spending the night. We ate chips and dip and made Chef Boyardee Pizza. We drank pop/soda.  I lived in the country.  It was 30 minutes to "the City" for McDonalds or the A & W.   We had no fast food available so it was all what we could buy at the grocery store.

No, I'm not in the top one.   The one below shows me with my head down.  This was the girl not seen in public without makeup since I was 12.

We never slept.  For hours we would sit in a circle, in the dark, around a candle, and play "Truth or Dare?".  One person starts by asking the question.  If you choose Truth, you have to answer the question truthfully.  ( Sure, who's gonna know right?)  or if you were afraid of what might be asked, you could choose Dare.  That's when you were given a task to do.  Back them it was something harmless like hang your bra on the tree in the front yard and leave it there all night.   I seem to remember that was how all of us ran up town, in our baby doll PJs. We ran up one side of the street and down the other, at the only stop light in town.  That was in the days when nothing was open after 6:00pm so at 1 or 2am, there was not a sole around.  Boy, did we think we were daring.

We played 45's and albums on the stereo.   Music was a huge part of our lives.  Garage parties ( with boys) were popular then as well, but we're still talking ages 12- 15 maybe. We danced for hours.  Oh, yeah, the guys did too. Then they would leave and the PJ party would start.    The Beatles, The Four Seasons, Beach Boys, and Motown were huge.  The music I most associate with those innocent boy/girl parties was Ronnie Dove.

As we got older, we girls still had our pajama parties.  The photos are from the time I was about 16. The guys always knew when a party was happening and usually threatened to raid it. We hoped they would, but it never happened.  Once in a while the boyfriends would drop us off after a date, but usually, we girls made time for each other.

In the morning we would be bleary eyed and exhausted from not sleeping.  We would have cold pizza and Coke for breakfast and then call for a ride home.  Ahhhh, Good Times.

Mom, This Is For You

                                                                          Nancy at  14

Monday marked 5 years that Mom has been gone.  I don't like to say it's an anniversary because that sounds like something to celebrate and that's not what I feel.  I  celebrate her Birthday and try not to give much credence to the day she left us.  I only made a brief mention on Facebook of it being a long day.  My sister responded, "I hear ya".  That's all that was needed.  This year, though, I'm stuck.  So, I'm giving this post to Mom today.  I think she's been sitting on shoulder nagging me to do something positive.  So, here Mom, are some of your favorite things.

1.  Anything pink, but rosebushes are best.

2.   Two Favorite Movies were:

                                                                            and

3.  She liked Elvis Gospel music, Il Divo, Barbra Streisand, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton.

4.  Books and books and more books: Nora Roberts, Taylor Caldwell, and Danielle Steel

5.  And of course, she loved us.  All of her children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.  No, we weren't at the bottom of her list, but if I had started with each of us at the top, there would have been no more room.

So these are a few of Mom's favorites I know she would have shared with you.  She would have shared much more and told you all of my stories and those of my sister and brother as well.  To say she never met a stranger is very apt.  Who knows what she would have said in a blog or on Facebook, but I do know she would have had followers for sure.

To Go Barefoot or Not

I was reading  Sweet Tea 's  blog on the end of summer and it made me think of how much I hate shoes.  I am a barefoot kind of girl.

In these later years I have opted for feet jewelry too.  I know.  I can't help it.  Show me a little bling and I am all over it.  My mother passed away at 76  wearing an ankle bracelet.  I think I got that gene.

I've worn toes rings, anklets and this.      If I'm forever barefoot, why not go for a little gusto?

I've had jewels in all colors.   If I had know this existed, I would have had one of these too.

Now I've got to order one of those! Now, it takes a special occasion to justify wearing that thing.   I've worn toe rings almost daily for about 3 years.  The ankle strappy thing, on cruises, or out shopping with the long summer sunndresess.  So what about you?  Do I have any barefooters or "bling" sisters out there?

Mashed Potato Time

I was flipping through Youtube, going from one thing to another and stumbled across this.

I was chuckling to myself because this is the dance I would do in the kitchen when I was cooking dinner with my daughters when they were teenagers. Yes, they laughed at me.  If you watch the blond, she got moves I would have stolen, I'm sure.  The only dance contest I ever won was doing this dance with, probably the only guy that would dare.

I did catch an episode of "The Talk" when Leah Remini was complaining about her mother doing this dance at an Ozzy Osbourne concert they had all recently attended.  I say ....good for her!

I was looking for American Bandstand   and did find The Beach Boys.

My babysitter watched American Bandstand  in the 1950's when my mother was going to "Beauty School" and he (which was unusual I think) watched us 3 kids.  Maybe that is where I became interested in music.  I certainly became interested in the dances then.

The Beach Boys were huge in the mid 1960s.  They sang of summer, surfing, hot cars, and girls.

I lived in the cold north and had dark hair.  I wanted to live in California and have blond hair.  I wanted to be a surfer girl.  Didn't we all?

Pros and Cons

A Pro is.... we have a winner!!!.. for the book "Before Ever After".     The Fifty Factor
Congratulations!  I'll get it right out to you.  Good timing now that she is counting down work days to more free time.

A Con is..... some of the CoHosts on my new favorite daytime talk show, The Talk,  were fired by Host, Julie Chen. Whatever Julie wants, Julie gets seems to be the common thread I've been reading. Her husband is Network President,  Les Moonves.  Gone are Leah Remini and Holly Robinson Peete.  Those two have been replaced by Molly Shannon ( yeah, really) and Sherry Underwood. ( I 've never heard of her either.)

The biggest disappointment for me is the absence of Sharon Osbourne, being replaced by Kris Jenner, Mom of all those Kardashians.  From what I've researched, Sharon wanted out and is reducing her time this season to 6 or 8 (depending on what you read) shows and then she's out.  So I'm out too.   I'll have to find a new favorite and right now I'm liking Anderson Cooper. I really enjoyed the show with his Mom as his guest.   We'll see how long that lasts.

Another Pro is that the American hiker/spies were released in Iran on Wednesday.  I've voiced my opinion on them before.  I've come to the conclusion they really were spies because if they weren't that only leaves stupidity as a reason for hiking along the border of Iraq (a war torn country) and Iran.... not so American friendly.  Regardless, I'm glad they were released.

A Con might be 39 year old, Bille Joe Armstrong, lead singer of Green Day, getting kicked off a Southwest Airplane for having sagging pants.

Southwest later did eat their words and off into the wild blue yonder he went.  I like Green Day ok enough,  ....He goes a little heavy on the eyeliner occasionally...but there are a couple of songs I really do like.  "Time of Your Life"    being one of them.

My 2 younger daughters and I have been battling this one out on Facebook.    Their argument is that he is a rocker and has an image to up hold.  His argument was there are more important things to be concerned with than his britches hanging.  I have to agree with both of them.  So I thought about it.

The rockers I grew up with are still wearing their same "Rocker" attire... think  Mick Jagger, Steven Tyler, The Boss....  I think my point will be remembered when they are looking at 50, 60 and 70 year old butt crack in their golden years.

First Concert

I happened to hear this today on one of the "oldie" stations and remembered this was my first concert.  Well, actually, my parents took me and maybe my sister, (I'm not clear on that) to see Johnny Cash at the old Cobo Hall in Detroit back in the late 50s to 1960-61 era.    But, this was the first one I saw when I was a teen.

Johnny Rivers at Western Michigan University in 1968.

Do Do Do Wahhhhhh,  Schoobie Doobie.....

"The Poor Side of Town "

"Baby, I Need Your Lovin"

Being a music lover, I've had the good fortune to go to many live concerts since, but every girl remembers the first. Right?

Book Giveaway

I believe in sharing good fortune. A few weeks ago, I won a book,  Before Ever After,  from Tina at Girl With a New Life.

I was contacted by the author, Samantha Soto for my address and soon received it in the mail.  I don't know about you, but if you are a reader, like me, you've tried to write as well.  It's a tough job.  If you are a writer as well, check out Tina's blog and you'll find she is an inspiration to you writers out there.

Doesn't it sound intriguing?  It was....

Now I can't leave it on a shelf.  I need to share it.  Just leave a comment if you'd like to be entered for the drawing and follow me.  Samantha is on Facebook.  She's still doing book signings.  Maybe she'll be at a book store near you.  No, she doesn't know I am doing this.  I don't know her or Tina, other than loving Tina's blog and her "Chick Flick" recommendations.

I will consult Price-Waterhouse for a tabulation of nominees and have an official drawing Friday for the winner.  Which means, I'll put all the names in a box and have Terry draw one out.   Hmmmmm, is this "regifting" or is it just sharing?   Is it regifting OK if the receiver knows it?

Good luck.

The Liebster Award

I was a fortunate recipient of this very welcoming award, from a blogger I'd never met.

Cilgin Kiz  from The Adventures of Cilgin  Kiz   of Ireland.  She found me in her blog travels and I'm so glad she did.  Now I can follow her in her travels across Europe.

Because I had never heard of this award, I did a little detective wor,k and discovered that liebster in German, means "beloved".

The Liebster Blog Award is designed to bring additional recognition to those bloggers with less than 200 followers.  If you receive the award, you should link back to the blogger that nominated you and nominate 5 more blogs.  And, also, don't forget to let them know you nominated them.

I have blog hopped the road less traveled at times and have discovered some great people. At other times, they have found me. For all, I am grateful and hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

You don't have to tell any secrets or reveal any facts about yourself.  Just pass it along so that we small bloggers can get to know each other.

So I nominate:

Bobbi   at Gracie Owns Me.   Gracie is her 4 legged owner and leads an adventurous life of her own.

Deanna  from My Loves, My Life.      Deanna is in Missouri.  I don't know where.  I have relatives from Missouri too, so I'll have to ask her.  She's just like us, taking one day at a time and finding what makes it amusing.

Mary from  My Boston, My Friend      Fred is the Boston she loves in the Pacific Northwest.  Great photos and  stories of life with Fred.

Iggy  from Intense Guy.       Iggy is a wealth of information on many subjects.  I love his reminisces about his family and his history.  This is one honest writer that never ceases to capture my interest.

Corker2  from The Pentax Lens of Corker2  .....     That brings out the lens envy in me with his photos. I am a history lover and so is he.  Maybe you are too.

We small bloggers love the support we have gotten and cherish making new friends along the way.

Mysteries and Conspiracy Theories

I admit, I'm "one of those" people that question certain "truths" as told to us by "the powers that be".

I had 3 favorite theories, for years. Just a few years ago I had to give up a hope I,  and others,  had held onto for decades.

1.  I had hoped that the youngest daughter of Tsar Nicholas and Alexandria, Anastasia Romanov, had some how escaped the slaughter of her family in the wee morning hours of July 17, 1918, at Ipatiev House, in Ekaterinburg, Russia.  I wanted the woman, found in a German hospital , in 1920, following a suicide attempt and known as Anna Anderson, to be the lost Grand Duchess.

We now know that in the late hours of July16, 1918, the Romanov family was awakened and led to a basement room  in the house they had been living for weeks, in exile.  The Empress Alexandria, Granddaughter of England's Queen Victoria, suffered debilitating migraines and sciatica and had spent most of her time in bed or in a wheelchair.   Both she and her daughter Olga were bone thin by that summer.   Little Alexei was weak from constant battles with hemophilia and had to be carried down the stairs.   The Tsar was resigned to another move and lacked interest in events around him.   That makes 7 family members, Dr. Botkin who had cared for the family for years, a female servant carrying 2 pillows, stuffed with jewels along with 2 other servants.  11 people in one small room.  They were told to wait for transport to another location.

Upstairs, the band of executioners were drinking alcohol in order to gain courage. Only a few are known. Most were from the village and not military trained.  They had been given pistols, as rifles were too noisy.  Each had been given the name of their target so the assassinations would happen quickly.  Most were balking now at having to shoot a child and the girls..  When the time came and they did bound into the doorway, it was cramped and awkward.  The  Tsar was fired on first and then pandemonium broke out.  Bullets were bouncing off the girls corsets, where they had sewn precious gems to take into exile with them.  Some of the assassins aimed off, not wanting to be responsible for shooting a child.  Next they drew bayonets and tried to stab their prey.  Again the gems in the corsets deflected the blades direct hits.  Rifle butts were used to smash heads.  Moans were still heard from the daughters and little Alexei.  More shots were fired.  All in all, it was a total scewed up mess.  Still, they weren't finished with their destruction.  I have read varying accounts that this took anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes.  I am leaning more towards 40 minutes of terror due to chaos.

Not prepared for such blood and broken bones, removing the bodies proved more difficult than anticipated.  They were carried to a flat bed truck.  11 bodies... nearly 2000 pounds hampering the speed of the old truck.   The plan had been to drop all the bodies down an old well, deep in the Serbian forest.  When the bodies were dropped into the water, to the horror of the assassins, the well proved to be only 9 feet deep.  So,  a grenade followed, hoping it would collapse the walls,  but the well was so well constructed it didn't cave in as hoped.  By then it was morning and the group still had not gotten rid of the bodies.  That led to them being removed, the faces obliterated with rifle butts, acid poured on them and then set on fire.  They did not realized the length of time it took to burn a body, let alone, 11 of them.  So, the remains were buried in a shallow grave just off the road.  Later,  they would again be moved.  9 bodies in one location and 2 in another, a short distance away.  That is where they stayed for decades.

I know.  Hard to read isn't it?  Lenin was in power.  Communism ruled.  I didn't know all of this in the 1970s when I first learned of Anna Anderson.  I only knew this woman could have been a young girl that had survived an extinction of her family.

She was a young woman when she was found in 1920, in a German hospital after a suicide attempt.  She had jumped in a river.  She had scars that looked like bayonet wounds.  She was the same height, had the same hair color and eye color, same shoe size as the Grand Duchess.  They both had hallux valgus deformity (bunions).  They shared scars on the same fingers that Anastasia had injured by slamming a door on hers.  They both had scars on their backs where Anastasia had a mole removed.  Anna knew inside family jokes and answered correctly questions asked of her by The Tzar's brother.
Who is this Anna Anderson?

Or was she Franziska Schanzkowska, a missing polish factory worker?

She refused to speak Russian, due to the traumatic episode she said. She would not speak the language of the people that murdered her family.  Remember, her mother was Queen Victoria's granddaughter.
She spoke English well.
She knew palace layouts.   She had courtly manners.  All of this made the idea of her being the Grand Duchess plausible.  The few remaining Romanov's that had been able to escape Russia never validated her claim.

Anna Anderson lived with wealthy advocates, one after another, all over the world, from then on.  She was cared for twice in mental institutions and suffered many illnesses  In 1968 she married one of her supporters, John Manahan of Virginia.  He was 20 years younger. She died of pneumonia on June 18, 1984.

It wasn't until 1991 that the truth would be told.  Gorbachev had torn down that wall of silence and the fate of  "most" the RomanovsTsarovich Alexei may have escaped.    Was it really Maria missing.  Could Anna Anderson still be the real Anastasia?   Family DNA from Prince Phillip, the Queen's husband had been used.   I wanted to believe it could still be Anastasia.

But it wasn't.   The 2nd grave was discovered in 2007 and DNA proved those missing, Maria and Alexei had been found.

Still, for me, that answers who Anna Anderson wasn't, but who was she?   How would a Polish factory worker know the lay out of palaces, the answers to inside family matters, and have courtly manners? She certainly had issues.  I think she may, very well  have truly believed she was Anastasia Romanov.

So that's my first favorite Conspiracy theory.  I have 2 others.  Marilyn was murdered to protect the Kennedy's and Lee Harvey Oswald did not act alone.   But, I do believe Elvis is indeed dead. Do you have a pet theory?  What is it?

Another Movie Favorite

I had another favorite movie cross my brainwaves  so I thought I'd share it with you.  It's one I forget about for a few years and then have to watch again.   Against All Odds with Jeff Bridges, Rachel Ward and James Woods.

Terry Brogan/ Jeff Bridges,is  an aging football player in L.A., that was cut early in the season. He needs money, so he takes a job from a shady friend of his, Jake Wise/ James Woods, to track down Wise's girlfriend, Jessie/Rachel Ward, who's somewhere in Mexico.  Of course they fall in love or we wouldn't have much of a movie if he just went down to Cozumel and got the girl.

Thank goodness for the 80's  love songs.

Rachel Ward is gorgeous.  James Woods does a great bad guy and Jeff Bridges is looking pretty good too.  The theme song is one of Phil  Collin's best.   This couple is so "hot" that they will make you forget that being in  sticky heat, covered in sand, is really not that sexy.

I Won a Give Away

Winning!!!

I have to thank Laura  from A Happy Simple Life  for the box of Michigan goodies that arrived on my front porch.

My good friend Oprah has said there are no coincidences, but I am from a small town about 30 minutes from Frankenmuth,  Michigan where Laura spent the day and picked up the goodies.

The Christmas ornament is from Bronner's, the largest Christmas store in the country, if not the world.  Yes, I've read their brochure, but it may be true.

So I'm sure I'll thank you again, when the sleet is whirling and the the snow squeaks when you walk on it, up there,   and I'm down here in my sweatshirt drinking your tea and eating your jam on toast.  I'm the lucky one.

I Feel The Need, The Need For Speed

Sound familiar? Goose and Maverick in Top Gun.

What's Your Favorite Movie Line? What movie is it from?

There are so many great lines from movies, starting with Clark Gable's "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn" from Gone With the Wind to " Nobody puts Baby in a corner" in Dirty Dancing. We all have our favorites.

I asked my daughters, my LARC friends and my sister all to send me their favorite movie lines.

My sister (YFS) recently posted on facebook this one from Hope Floats.

Justin Matisse/ Harry Connick Jr. : Dancin's just a conversation between two people. Talk to me.

The Daughters shared one from Steel Magnolias

Ouiser/ Shirley McLaine: " I'm not crazy. I've just been in a bad mood for forty years."

One from The Usual Suspects:

Keyser Soze/ .: "The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist."

And this one from America's Sweathearts
Kiki/Julia Robert's impersonating her sister Gwen/ Catherine Zeta Jones

"Kiki Kiki kins, Who's smoking? I smell smoke. Is someone smoking within a six mile radius of where I'm standing? Go stop them.

That one was too obscure for me, but she told me "Don't judge" so I'll go with it.

I heard "Do you feel lucky? " and "Go ahead, make my day." from Dirty Harry, from Terry along with a Godfather,    Michael Corleone/ Al Pacino  "Just when I think I get out they pull me back in."    as well as " Houston, we have a problem."   from Apollo 13.

"You'll put your eye out kid" from A Christmas Story and " You act like a man who's expecting
his wife back in town. " from Butterfield 8.

And one of my favorites is another from Hope Floats :

Birdee/Sandra Bullock "Beginnings are scary, Endings are usually sad, but it's the middle that counts the most. Try to remember when you find yourself at a new beginning, just give hope a chance to float up and it will.

I'll end with a classic.

Remembering September 11th

I don't know what to say about this 10th anniversary of that terrible day.  I don't know how to wrap up all the pain and the grief of all the loved ones that lost their dear ones on that day.   I don't know what to say to the families and friends of the men and women lost in Iraq and Afghanistan as a repercussion of that day.   Every year we pause and remember, but now,  I find it difficult to believe that we have been living with this for 10 years.

There is such a pebble in the water effect from that day.   The ripples reach out further every hour.   The firemen and policemen and other service workers that became terminally ill after working in the dust of the towers for days haven't been counted.  The physically wounded soldiers that come home from foreign lands and the ones that live with PTSD are not counted.   The children without a parent and the parents missing their children are still here, after 10 years.

To me the only way to make sense of this is to remember the pride and strength we found in each other.  It was written somewhere, that "we were all New Yorkers that day", but it also happened in Pennsylvania and in Washington D.C.   We are united and we don't forget.    My heart goes out to all those that day touched......and it touched all of us.

The Fads Come and Go

Every once in a while I have a fleeting memory of a long gone item.  I have to write them down 'cause goodness knows, I will not remember them an hour from then. Basically, I think both of these things just prove I am older than dirt.  At any rate, this is the list this week.

1.  Pointy bras and binding girdles:

Look at that bra.  You could put an eye with those things.  I wore those girdles all through middle and high school too.  Then, thank goodness for pantyhose.

2.  Melmac

I still have that green bowl in the lower left of thepicture, but it is a forest green and I remember these mugs for years, at my parents house,  after I moved out.
 3.Aprons

I don't remember my mother wearing an apron.  I do remember my grandmother wearing them all the time.  I'm sure she made hers too.  They make sense.  I have ruined many shirts because I spray a bleach  cleaner on my counter tops when I wipe them down.

4.  These clips!

These things were made by the devil himself.  I have been bitten in the most inconvenient circumstances when you cannot reach around an fix the dang thing.   It looks so innocent, but it wasn't.  It was evil!

5.  Ovaltine

Evidently this is still being made.  I didn't know that, but I did see some new packaging when I was looking for this one.  My father would go on a "no coffee" kick and switch to this. Both of my parents dran instant coffee so this had to better than that .

6.   These pots made the best coffee.

I'm sure my daughters will have their own list of oldies, if they don't already.

Ah, Yes, It's Time for Politics Again

Oh, Lordy, Lordy, the politicians are coming out of the woodwork all ready.  I am not known for hiding my opinions, but I must say, I really don't care who "Hollywood" supports.  They are no different than "Joe the Plumber" but they get more air time.

I did find this reparte' between Matt Damon and President Obama humorous.   Matt was on Piers Morgan's show back in March.  Being a news junkie, I somehow missed this.

Now the President takes his turn.  I hate to admit it Matt, but I have to agree.

We're in for a loooonnnngggg political season.

Dixie Who? There Are New Chicks In Town

I have been missing the Dixie Chicks since they went all political and stopped making music.  With Natalie Mains gone, the other two chicks formed a new band called   The Courtyard Hounds.   To me, it was just OK.  I still felt the need for another girl group to sing with in my car, and when I was cooking dinner.

I know I wasn't the only one missing something.  Now our prayers have been answered.  Meet Pistol Annies  with Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe, and Angaleena Presley.

"Hell On Heels" by Pistol Annies

The album is also called "Hell on Heels".  I'm out the door to go get it.

Do You Remember?

I watched the Biography channel today with their bio on Twiggy.

I remember her from the 1960's.  I thought she was utterly "fab".  That reminded me of other '60's type stuff.

Like Yardley Cosmetics.  ( Anything remotely Bristish was so much better than the U.S. stuff, or so we thought.)  Yardley reminded me of Jean Shrimpton.  I loved her.  I think she and Twiggy were the first of the model celebrities.

The 1960's cosmetics were all about the eyes with little or no lip color.  I had a girlfriend that used the concealer in a tube for lipstick to wipe out her lips entirely.

I tried false eyelashes. I shouldn't have.  Mine kept popping up on one corner or the other.  I never did get the hang of it.

This stuff I used by the gallon.  Then we learned later, from a dermatologist, that is is horrible for your skin.  Every night I washed my makeup off with Noxema and piled on Clearasil to that one pimple that was sure to ruin my life, the next morning.

My foundation makeup was Cover Girl.  For some reason this stuff was not kind to me.  By the end of the day it turned orange on my skin and looked ridiculous. I was not Cheryl Tiegs.  That was not a good look for me.   I think I switched to Avon then, when I was ordering my Sweet Honesty or Soft Musk, to go along with my all time favorite Ambush by Dana.

The other trend I followed was the white/silver pearl nail polish.  I know I wore this all 4 years of high school.

Does anyone else have any style memories from their teen years?
