Holy Cow!

Today was my first earthquake experience.  I was sitting on the couch, loading books into my new Kindle, when I felt the couch shake.  I looked around, like, what the hay,.  Nothing.. I looked up at the valance over the picture window and it was moving but there is an air conditioning vent there so it moves anyway.  I felt the tremor about 15 seconds.  I thought I was having one of my mother's dizzy spells, that I have never had before.  After it was over, I put it out of my mind.  Then Terry called from the base and asked if I had felt the earthquake.  Really, an earthquake? good, cause I thought it was me.

Shortly after that my sister, in Michigan, called to see if I was ready for Irene?  What?  I hadn't seen any news today.  Last I did see, she was going to maybe hit Florida. Not now.  Now she's after all the south eastern coast.

That's enough please.  We give up.  Stop it.

I live in earthquake country. They are not fun. The whole house either rolls like on a boat or rattles. Check your plumbing and make sure things on high shelves don't fall on your head.

This is a fun site to check if you get an aftershock in the next few days.

Yikes! Glad it wasn't a bad one! Apparently it was also felt here in Michigan. I was helping my daughter set up her classroom and we were just getting ready to leave at that time. Didn't feel a thing.
Stay safe during the hurricane. That's scary stuff!
Hey! Did you know that you won our Frankenmuth giveaway!? Email me with your address so I can get it to you. :-)

Mother Nature has not been kind this year. I was in Christchurch New Zealand when they had their big earthquake in February, very scary. Hope Irene changes course!

I do miss the sunshine but not the hurricanes.

Did you know you can HEAR an earthquake sometimes? Yep, as the rocks in the fault slide across each other. I've heard one once and felt it. It sounds like a LOUD jet engine - very LOUD. Now a hurricane - nope don't get those in Wyoming!! thank goodness. But earthquakes every once in a while, thankfully small couch-rockin' ones! Hunker down and stay safe from Irene!

Tht's a lot of drama for one week, isn't it?

Our son Brad and his wife were in NC yesterday, but they missed the tremor because they were traveling when it happened.

As for Irene, she's wreking havoc with my beach plans for this weekend! I hope your area is spared from her wrath.

It was my first experience too. I heard it was a 5.9 in Virginia, but it was an 8.6 in my pants ! Holy smokes was that the strangest feeling watching everything move about...NYC is def not prepared for an Earthquake.
