In the early 1980s Debra Winger scored big in two movies. In 1980 she danced her way into John Travolta's heart in Urban Cowboy.
I loved the music from this movie, especially Mickey Gilley's "Stand By Me." I tried watching it a few years ago and realized that John's character was pretty much a hot mess in that movie. At the time, there were mechanical bulls in some bars, but, no, I didn't ride any. Now I wish I would have been more adventuresome and had given it a try. The music holds up well though.
The other movie where she won the guy was "An Officer and a Gentleman" with Richard Gere. Holy Smoly.... Richard Gere still melts my girly heart. For instance "Nights in Rodanthe" with Diane Lane, is a great chick flick
Richard was the first "Naval Aviator" that stole our hearts. It wasn't until 1986 that Tom Cruise's Top Gun captured that spot and, as of yet, he still has the title.

Oh yes, Richard Gere ... he's certainly like a good wine ... he's aged well. I always enjoy watching his movies ... even if the story line isn't any good, there's always Richard Gere to look at. ;-)
LoL.... I never rode a bull either mechanical or otherwise. I too wish I would of, but hey... now I would look like some old lady acting like an idiot.... Plus I would probably break something
I could watch Debra Winger for hours and hours.. but not in any movie with John (Re)Volta.
:)
Sorry, once he was Vinnie Ba-ba-ba-barino.. he will always be idjot Vinnie.
I used to dream that Richard would come and sweep me off my feet when I was a factory worker many years ago .....sigh!!
I think "An Officer and a Gentleman" is one of the sexiest movies ever. I need to watch that again - it's been a long time.
The first movie I have not seen, but I do know the song.
The movie Officer and a Gentlemen - oh la la!
lol
Love, sandie
Yes to Richard Gere.
But my favourite chick flicks are the British ones like Bridget Jones' Diary, Bend It Like Beckham (have you seen his underwear ad ;)), Love Actually. I could go on and on!!!
P.S. OMG how could I forget To Sir With Love!!!!!!!
Of the 3 actors you mentioned, I love Richard Gere the most!!!
Oh yes, I remember the era of the mechanical bull :) They actually had one of those at the county fair last year! and no, I didn't ride it! :)
Richard Gere has always been a favorite of mine...He and hubby, Ed, are two of my favorite gray-haired guys :)
Both enjoyable movies..I especially like Richard Gere..much better than Tom Cruise:)
Oh, ANYTHING with Richard Gere in it was a must see for me - I have such fond memories My three flat-mates and me, gathered 'round the popcorn bowl, pj's donned, hair in curlers, watching him in that role. (Huh? Behave yourself, OF COURSE it wasn't at the cinema!)
Seriously, you've never ridden a mechanical bull??
Be still my heart... Love, love, love Richard Gere!
