The Sea Fair at the Seafood Festival

This weekend was the Morehead City Seafood Festival. We went for the first time, last year.  It's pretty much like all the other summer festivals. This year though, the $40 million dollar mega yacht, Sea Fair, was brought there by the Arts Council to host a fund raising event for the council.  Artists donated their work to be shown aboard, 2 floors, of the yacht.  I did bring my camera, obviously...  but, on board, I didn't see anyone else with one, so I didn't take any pictures of the art.  I really wanted to!

The top open deck area is a restaurant.  That middle area that juts out at the back end is a bar.  There were all kinds of $$ making events on board, all weekend.  To board to see the exhibits was $10.00 or $15.00 if you don't want to stand in the long lines, which I just knew would be there.  Also, I bought the tickets on line, at an addition $1.50 each, to avoid those same lines.

There were no lines. There were only 2 other people buying tickets and I had to wait until someone noticed we were standing all alone in the "Have my tickets"  area.  There was 3 ounces of Chardonnay for $7.00 that I enjoyed immensely from these tables.  I didn't look out onto the pretty turquoise water of the Caribbean, but I did see this.

It says "US Environmental Protection Agency" ...... ?  ?  I don't know......

These houseboats for rent, seemed like a good idea for a family vacation,.  I imagined  Disney family moments .  It seemed like a good idea, until I remembered....Who's gonna drive the darn thing?   I don't know how to swim.  I would have to pack all the clothes, and the food and I would be the one cooking all that food and picking up all those clothes.  Thankfully, I came to my senses before I pursued that too far.  Carnival... here I come.

We did arrive unfashionably early.  Just an hour after the Sea Fair opened, so maybe later on there were lines.  I'll tell myself that.

I have to add that I did just hear on the news that at the festival, they will crown the Flounder Queen. I've tried to verify that.  Of all that I could find, the Queen was not mentioned.  A few years ago, before we moved south, we went to the "Cheeseburger in Caseville Festival" in  Caseville, Michigan.  They had a "Fish Sandwich" Queen.

Oh, yes.  that festival is all things Jimmy Buffett. The parade (which is called "The Parade of Tropical Fools") is about one mile long. Seriously. It goes on forever.

The Queens among the cheeseheads.  I don't know if this is what those "Toddlers & Tiara" Moms are striving for, but I'm wondering who was on the committees that came up with those names.

The small town I lived in had a Blueberry Festival.   Does your town celebrate with a festival too?

I love all the Fall Festival that areas do. We are having the Red River Revel here this weekend. Princess went with her friends but we haven't gone YET...BTW, I have a friend who was once crowned the "Watermelon Queen" in her locale. Great homespun stuff. Looks like fun - especially with a bit of wine to sip along the way.

Looks like a fun day! I always like to do things like this; love to watch people and see what is happening.

We have a Lemon Festival in August and in two weeks our city will be celebrating its 100th birthday, so lots of events tied into that :)

Ah hell, I couldn't just leave my comment at that. That is one nice yacht. Sure am glad you beat the long lines...(if you say so) :-)

I always wanted to rent one of those houseboats, never did though. I think I'm glad I didn't. I always forget how much work was involved in those damn vacations. Take me on a cruise any day.

Oh my! North Carolina seafood! I can almost taste the "shrimp steamed in butter" at the Sanitary Fish Market in Morehead City. A childhood memory. You can't find fried fish and hushpuppies in California. Everything here is broiled or raw or somehow "healthy"---not as tasty.

Aren't you glad you bought those tickets ahead of time?!?

A little town south of us hosts a testicle festival every year. We've yet to go. There are apple festivals, heritage festivals, plain ol' fall festivals, German festivals, Octoberfests, Wine Festivals... You name it, I believe we've festivaled it.

It is a shame you didn't get the pictures, but I would have been the same way - hesitant to snap photos if no one else was. The pictures you did get are pretty cool.

Sounds like an awesome day!

We have October Fest and the Tulip Festival as well as lots of Brew Fests.

I think I'd rather hop on a cruise ship too.

Ah we have the Logging Days Festival, Midsummer Celebration, The Blueberry Festival (complete with Blueberry Shakes), South of us they have Turkey Days.

I guess you were hobknobbing with the elite that are fashionably late! Looks like a great way to spend the day!
I have been on a houseboat..my daughters were both excellent drivers..I was the kid watcher. We all went on a family vacation way up north in Minnesota, it was awesome the grandkids still talk about it! :)

I live on a houseboat most weekends during the summer. It never leaves the dock. LOL!

Founder Queen? LMAO! Now that will look good on her resume.

The only festival I'm aware of that is a little odd in this area is the RoadKill Festival in West Virginia. The "hillbillies" poke a lot of fun at themselves and serve some rather odd foods (like stewed crows).
