The "Dirty Dancing" Catskills Resort Burns

Oh, Baby, tell me it isn't so....

I'm sure most of you caught that little nugget of heartache on the news.

MSNBC photo of what had originally been "The Brown Resort" in the Catskills, that the resort in which Dirty Dancing was based.  (It was actually filmed in Virginia - Hollywood magic at work there)   I feel a bit nostolgic about a place that never existed with people that were pretend.  I read once that Margaret Mitchell was repeated asked "What happened next with Scarlett and Rhett?"  She would say "I don't know."  and was tired of being asked.  We readers and viewers get emotionally attached. Well, I do at least.   So, my heart aches a little for Baby and Johnny and the place where it all began.

I wore those cut off jeans all during the mid to late 1960's.

There might have been a boy on the other end of that phone line, but I'm sure he was no "Johnny". Big sigh.......

I hadn't seen this, sorry to hear it. Dirty Dancing was a good movie...that Patrick! Sigh!

I wore those blue jeans cut off, too!

Oh my.... I had not heard it. I still love that movie to this day. Kids these days don't know how good they have it. Look at how you are attached to that phone. Cordless had not even been invented! Were you on a party line too? We were...

This is so sad; I had not heard about this. And I wish I still had my cutoffs.

Too bad that Patrick died. He still was too young to go. But what a splendid body and dancing skills! He was great in GHOST with Demi Moore, also.

I missed this story on the news. How sad!

Love the photo of you! Wonder how long you sat like that, talking on the phone--and speaking of phone--how about that rotary dial??? Remember how heavy those rotary phones were?

Sad to see an iconic place burn down.

:(

Our phone back in the day was on the main hallway wall and we had to stand to reach it. That kept a lot of calls short and sweet... no privacy at all and who wants to stand and talk?
