I happened to hear this today on one of the "oldie" stations and remembered this was my first concert. Well, actually, my parents took me and maybe my sister, (I'm not clear on that) to see Johnny Cash at the old Cobo Hall in Detroit back in the late 50s to 1960-61 era. But, this was the first one I saw when I was a teen.
Johnny Rivers at Western Michigan University in 1968.
Do Do Do Wahhhhhh, Schoobie Doobie.....
"The Poor Side of Town "
"Baby, I Need Your Lovin"
Being a music lover, I've had the good fortune to go to many live concerts since, but every girl remembers the first. Right?
Like you, I have only seen 2 live Concerts in my whole Life. One was to see Jimmy Hendricks in 1966 at the HIC in Hawaii, and the other one was Barry Manilow here in Reading. That's it! I do remember those songs well.
I don't remember my first concert. I'm pretty sure I wasn't smoking anything or drinking -
Hmm... I saw Genesis, Fleetwood Mac (twice), Air Supply, John Denver, Billy Joel (what a performer!), Journey, Huey Lewis (before the news).... Hall and Oates... Chicago... Rod Stewart (when he got old - so he might of been the last one) and Steve Winwood. I'm thinking either John Denver or Huey Lewis was the first one....
I wanted to see Styx and Blondie but couldn't get tickets and I had tickets to the Culture Club, but no date, so I gave them away.
I still can see and hear in my mind Christie Mcvie playing the piano and singing "You'll never make me cry"... I was in the second row and could see up her very short dress... (blush)
Now you are talking..Johnny Rivers..love that Music! I saw Tiny Tim before he married Miss Vickie..that was my first real concert. Then I did the Neils Sedaka and Diamond..both fantastic showmen. My Husband saw Johnny Cash before he was anyone:)
Oh what a voice! We just recently bought a record player so we can play some of our many old vinyls. I'm going to have to paw through them all and find one of his albums.
I was never allowed to go to any concerts as a teen and once we got married, money was too scarce. What a wonderful memory!
I would love to have gone to one of his concerts! What memories this brings. I wasn't "allowed" to go (my folks wouldn't give me the $) until high school. Then I was able to go to the Moody Blues and the Temptations when they came to town.
Johnny Rivers is Mister's favorite singer from the past. He used to play his music over and over and over and over and...get the idea? LOL Me? I'm a Gene Pitney and Neil Sedaka girl, and of course The Beatles, and Dan Fogelberg. . .

Now that's my kind of music! LOL
My first concert was a small one. Ed took me to see Billy Joe Royal (Down in the Boondocks) the first summer that we started dating...
