The Voice That Was Whitney

Long before Christina was called "The Voice", I think, Whitney Houston was one of those voices that made me stop what I was doing just to listen.  She was not one you would choose to do for a karaoke.  No Way. When I heard this morning, that she had died, I really wasn't suprised.  Like Amy Winehouse, we all knew she walked a very thin line.  My heart was heavy though, with the loss of what might have been.

I can't be the music lover I am and not say what a fantastic talent she was.  Who could watch Bodyguard  and not be moved by that woman.  I can't say she will be missed... She was all ready missed while she was still here on Earth!  She ruled the airwaves in the 80 and 90s.  Then, with her marriage to Bobby Brown, she lost it all.  She fought her demons and lost.   We are all the poorer for it.

I don't think there was ever an American Anthem sung at a football game that rivaled her 25th Superbowl appearance.  She was fabulous.

My heart goes out to her daughter.  I don't know if that little girl, while she is 18 now, ever saw her the way we did, in the beginning, when her talent was shiny and new.   I don't profess to know what her personal life was like, good heavens, no.....but we got a peak inside.  What we saw scared us, for her,  I think.  We want someone with such talent to do well and be well.

So this song, for me, says it pretty much. Didn't We Almost Have it All     She did, didn't she?  Almost...

Her passing is really sad, but not unexpected. It seems a shame that people who have so much get lost and turn to drugs. It's hard to understand.

So sad but the entertainment industry breeds drug and alcohol abuse. I'm sure so many people tried to get her the help she needed. I can't imagine what her daughter must be feeling.

So sad that talent and fame brings such pain to so many. There is a lot to be said for an "ordinary life"

Whitney's passing is sad, but as you said, "not a surprise". It's all about life choices. How sad for Whitney's young daughter that her mom made some poor ones.

When she defended a dead beat dad like Bobby Brown that was it for me and listening to Whitney Houston....Dead beat dads cost precious children their lives in many many ways, he was the father of two other children and their Mother had to fight like Mohammad Ali to get the moneyh due to them and yes he was married to Whitney Houston at the time..oh, my goodness she was a singer and extraordinary at that, rest in peace..but what a warning about drugs and alcohol, her voice was shot by the time of her untimely demise..sad and a big warning!

Almost...

We have lost so many God given talents to the world of excesses. So sad.

Nice tribute.

So sad for her daughter..the music world seems to accept drug related deaths easily..it seems almost normal..that is the part that bothers me. Although it will be weeks before we known the real cause of death..she may have had some underlying condition that made her pass out in that tub..gosh I like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt:)

It's almost like we watched her decline in the last few years. It's so sad...

She was so incredible.

Here is a "in your face" warning bell for types like Lindsay Lohan and Charlie Sheen.

Seems that "rehab" in Hollywood does a "land office business."

Sad.

Rest in Peace Whitney Houston, pray for her only child only 18 who is the daughter of two people afflicted with drug & alcohol problems..She died too soon, hope up in Heaven the angels will enjoy your voice...sad sad & more sad, many families endure the excrutiating pain of burying their loved ones who ruin their lives to drugs and alcohol, I think that alcohol should be so expensive that many cannot get it cheaply..love your blog, always learn something interesting and yes I am a certified boomer and get a big kick out of your thoughts, you are a sweet lady, happy valentines day!!!!!!!!!!!
