Mom, This Is For You

                                                                          Nancy at  14

Monday marked 5 years that Mom has been gone.  I don't like to say it's an anniversary because that sounds like something to celebrate and that's not what I feel.  I  celebrate her Birthday and try not to give much credence to the day she left us.  I only made a brief mention on Facebook of it being a long day.  My sister responded, "I hear ya".  That's all that was needed.  This year, though, I'm stuck.  So, I'm giving this post to Mom today.  I think she's been sitting on shoulder nagging me to do something positive.  So, here Mom, are some of your favorite things.

1.  Anything pink, but rosebushes are best.

2.   Two Favorite Movies were:

                                                                            and

3.  She liked Elvis Gospel music, Il Divo, Barbra Streisand, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton.

4.  Books and books and more books: Nora Roberts, Taylor Caldwell, and Danielle Steel

5.  And of course, she loved us.  All of her children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.  No, we weren't at the bottom of her list, but if I had started with each of us at the top, there would have been no more room.

So these are a few of Mom's favorites I know she would have shared with you.  She would have shared much more and told you all of my stories and those of my sister and brother as well.  To say she never met a stranger is very apt.  Who knows what she would have said in a blog or on Facebook, but I do know she would have had followers for sure.

Another Movie Favorite

I had another favorite movie cross my brainwaves  so I thought I'd share it with you.  It's one I forget about for a few years and then have to watch again.   Against All Odds with Jeff Bridges, Rachel Ward and James Woods.

Terry Brogan/ Jeff Bridges,is  an aging football player in L.A., that was cut early in the season. He needs money, so he takes a job from a shady friend of his, Jake Wise/ James Woods, to track down Wise's girlfriend, Jessie/Rachel Ward, who's somewhere in Mexico.  Of course they fall in love or we wouldn't have much of a movie if he just went down to Cozumel and got the girl.

Thank goodness for the 80's  love songs.

Rachel Ward is gorgeous.  James Woods does a great bad guy and Jeff Bridges is looking pretty good too.  The theme song is one of Phil  Collin's best.   This couple is so "hot" that they will make you forget that being in  sticky heat, covered in sand, is really not that sexy.

Things I Never Get Tired Of

1.  I hate commercials.  I think most people do.  They are at least 10  volume decimals higher than regular programing.  I don't know why they think they have to scream at us. One that I don't mind is the Dodge Ram truck commercials with Sam Elliot doing the voice over.  I confess, Sam could read the phone book and I would be there from A to Z.

2.  Long gone are the "Like A Rock", Bob Seger, Chevy truck commercials.  You trust Bob Seger, right?  He didn't yell.  Just play the song.  Simple. To the point.

3.  About once a year I read "The Great Gatsby".   I don't doubt it is wrapped up in my memories with Robert Redford.  In my head, Jay Gatsby's voice is always Robert Redford.   It's a short book of a time long gone,  that I would have loved to observe like Nick Carraway.

4.  Motown..... What can I say.  I grew up 90 minutes from Detroit in the Motown glory days.

5.  Yankee Candles

6.  Top Gun    and   Sleepless in Seatle      These I never grow tired of.

What are favorites?  What do you never grow tired of?
