Who Was On Your Wall?

I was clearing photos out of my phone today and came across this one.

One of my good friends from Michigan had wanted to take me to see Paul McCartney at Comerica Park, home of the Detroit Tigers,  for my Birthday in July.  North Carolina to Michigan is a long way to go for a concert but she knew Paul was my favorite Beatle.  I had to say "No thanks"  so she texted me this photo.  I didn't delete it.  I have to keep Paul and her good intentions.

The Beatles phenomenon hit the United States in 1963.  I was 13, the perfect age for my first and only, musical crush.    I had Beatles all over one complete wall, floor to ceiling,  in the bedroom I shared with my sister.

These are the haircuts that gave my father and many others, fits.  Long haired rebels that they were.  That was the beginning.  Their early music was as innocent as the times.  "I Want To Hold Your Hand", "I Saw Her Standing There", and "This Boy" fit well with the early to mid 1960's music about surfing, cars and boy/girl relationships.

My favorite Beatle was Paul, the cute Beatle.
I had all the albums.  I knew all the stories and rumors.  I never believed Paul was dead.   I didn't think the photo on the cover of the Abbey Road album was a clue because Paul was barefoot.

They were only together for about 7 years.    That's not very long to have left such an impression on the music of a generation.  Of course, three of the four Beatles (yes, I know Ringo tried and is still trying, but we know who made the real money here.) continued to write and record on their own.

And, yes, I still know all the words to all the songs.

So who was on your wall growing up?   Whose music got you singing?

Growing up in a strict Christian family, I wasn't allowed to put posters on my wall. I secretly like David Cassidy and Foster Sylvers of the Sylvers. I liked the Beatles but I didn't swoon over them. I like them a whole lot more now.

I didn't swoon over them either. My Dad called them Long Hairs..they look pretty clean cut compared with some kids today. I did like some of their music..Penny Lane and a few other songs. I wasn't allowed to put stuff up on the wall..I had a mirror and thats it..I hung the school pendant on the edge of the mirror:)

I remember that my mom had one of the Beatles' first albums. Whatever happened to it?
I liked a fair amount of music in my youth and had some posters of rockers on my wall for a short while. What really dominated my bedroom walls though? Horses! I loved horses more than anything!
I really would have loved to see Paul McCartney at Comerica!

All of the Beatles graced my bedroom walls. I had a crush on Ringo first, then George,John, and Paul. My Paul crush has lasted the longest!

Since Everybody liked Paul (because he was the cutest) I decided to be different and liked George the best of the Beatles. I knew every word of every song they sang. What a phenomenon.
I also really liked the Rolling Stones at the time .... and still do!

I was only eight or nine when the Beatles took us by storm, but I loved them, too!

I know all the words to their songs--especially the early ones.

At first I liked John, then later switched to Paul. What was I thinking liking John over Paul???

The only poster I ever owned was one of Peter Fonda as "Easy Rider". You'd have thought I was a "wild child", but alas, it was only in my mind...LOL

I was 11 when the Beatles hit the scene. Secretly I was swooning, but my ultra-strict parents would not let us watch them on the Ed Sullivan Show or listen to their music. The same held true for Elvis. No posters on my wall. Secretly, though, I would hide my little transitor radio under my pillow at night and listen Wolfman Jack and all of the forbidden music on a station out of Little Rock Arkansas.

Still love the oldies!

I was 15 when they hit New York, watched them in black & white on a tiny tv in the country, loved all of them, Paul & John, loved George and thought Ringo the jokster but great, to me innocent time, songs one could remember and sing to..too bad John & George are gone, loved the writings and tunes, we don't have innocent times like that anymore..Today's youth is so very different, if one has no money one doesn't get to do anything, no one seems to listen to AM radio anymore and some FM stations are all talk, the hip hop group I think spews hateful words and not much more, no the times are a changing, loved, loved Simon and Garfunkle, real artists, love Paul Simon still, Neil Diamond I saw him in California was a great enteratiner then, fabulous now over 40 years later, Santana jammed at County fairs for $5.00 in California, no youth don't get a break anymore with the horrible unemployment no jobs, songs that spew hate and lousy weather in the east and south, oh, my I will take the 60's again in a new york minute! a baby boomer in the 'couv Vancouver Washington..I love you yeah yeah yeah as the song says!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
