Mom, This Is For You

                                                                          Nancy at  14

Monday marked 5 years that Mom has been gone.  I don't like to say it's an anniversary because that sounds like something to celebrate and that's not what I feel.  I  celebrate her Birthday and try not to give much credence to the day she left us.  I only made a brief mention on Facebook of it being a long day.  My sister responded, "I hear ya".  That's all that was needed.  This year, though, I'm stuck.  So, I'm giving this post to Mom today.  I think she's been sitting on shoulder nagging me to do something positive.  So, here Mom, are some of your favorite things.

1.  Anything pink, but rosebushes are best.

2.   Two Favorite Movies were:

                                                                            and

3.  She liked Elvis Gospel music, Il Divo, Barbra Streisand, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton.

4.  Books and books and more books: Nora Roberts, Taylor Caldwell, and Danielle Steel

5.  And of course, she loved us.  All of her children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.  No, we weren't at the bottom of her list, but if I had started with each of us at the top, there would have been no more room.

So these are a few of Mom's favorites I know she would have shared with you.  She would have shared much more and told you all of my stories and those of my sister and brother as well.  To say she never met a stranger is very apt.  Who knows what she would have said in a blog or on Facebook, but I do know she would have had followers for sure.

This is a beautiful tribute to your mother. I think it's neat to show some of her favorites, too. I know losing a mother is something you really never get over, no matter how old you are or how long it's been. My mother passed away over 30 years ago and I still think of her and miss her even tho I'm older now than she was at the time of her passing. And I agree with Sweet Tea, I would have been a follower because I love her taste in music and movies!

What a nice tribute to your mom. She would've loved it, I'm sure. I see a bit of my own mom, every day--in my daughter and grandaughter.

Sounds like a wonderful woman. In this case, the apple really didn't fall far from the tree.

You make her proud - I'm sure she's smiling at you.

Very nice tribute. I lost my mother about the same time ago. We lived on opposite sides of the country for 20 years, but saw each other at least once a year for a week or so. So, you can't really say we were "tight". I have to say that even now, not a single day goes by without my thinking of her. Literally, every day. I would never have guessed that to be the case before she was gone.

I liked this tribute you did for your mom! Nice to get to know what her favorites were and you to share her and her memory like this. It is hard to lose moms; it will be five years in December for my mom. I'm not sure she would have done well with the technology of blogs, etc, but I'm sure she too would have a following and possibly be very good friends with your mom.

thanks for sharing her with us

Your Mom was a teenage beauty! I enjoyed the old photo. I am sorry for your loss, it is very nice that your sister shares your feelings..and acknowledges them too.
If you are like me and I suspect that you are in some respects, something will gnaw away at me until I write about it..it is like I have to put it in it's proper place and writing helps:) :)

Grammy would have loved this and your right she would have had quite a few followers.
Monday was a quiet day without wearing pink or sparkles. I save that for her Birthday because I think she would like that.
