Now This is a Send Off

This obituary was forwarded to me by a girlfriend today.  I've removed any proper names out of respect, but I think it is worth sharing.

A Very Special Woman- Went Home to her Father on October 24, 2011. Cremation has already taken place. She loved her beer cold and her music loud. She'd fire you but forgive you just as quickly. She had a tendency toward sesquipedalian loquaciousness that belied her lack of formal education. She didn't always make it to the baby showers or weddings but she never missed a funeral. She got kicked out of every bar on Autumn Road, which became a family tradition. She used to say she could drink 42 beers and not even burp; and that she could take a punch as good as any man. On game days she could be found on her couch betting on her favorite teams. GO BLUE! GO LIONS! GO TIGERS! She was fond of the Dalai Lama and saw Buddha-nature in every living being. She was generous, a lover of life, a fighter, an artist, a poet, a wanna-be rock star, a collector of many fine things including many fine people, a mother, a proud grandmother, and one of many in a long line of strong women. She was a legend in her own mind-and she was right. Her legend will live on. She was a rebel, an original, and did everything you weren't supposed to do: drink like a fish, smoke like a chimney, curse like a sailor, and raise her children on her own like the old lady in the shoe. She will be missed greatly by her children: and her grandchildren: ; and many, many friends. A memorial in her honor will be held Sunday, at the Neighborhood Bar at 2 p.m. Those who loved her are invited to join the family for stories, laughter, tears, and food in celebration of her life.

I've never seen an obit with this much pizazz.  I'm sure she's smiling down at the author right now.

All I can say is that my daughters should not be taking notes on this one for me, please.  I would come back to haunt them.

To laugh or to cry?
The obit makes for a good read but
not really the things I would want to
be remembered for...I totally agree with you.

I've known spunky women like that and always watched from a distance. As ol' Frank Sinatra would have crooned, "she did it her way"... I'm sure she is smiling down at the author of her obit.

Like her, I am doing it my way, and expect my obit to read quite differently!!!!!

Good fun read, though.

That's quite an obit there. I've never seen one like this. :D I'm not sure she's a good role model, but it sounds like she had a good time while she was here!
Have a great day!

She sure did it her way, and I'm sure she would approve of the obit. Not my cup o' tea either, but gladly it's not my obit :)

Well I have mixed feelings - I would love if mine was sort of wild and crazy like that - but can't say I like what she did with her life - but then who am I to judge?

My Daughter already knows I will haunt her if she doesn't honor my wishes.

I didn't and don't lead a life like the one in the obit.... but I am sure I have done some things that ain't so cool!

When I seen your blog name... I had to come over and say hello from another boomer.

Not everyday someone gets described as having "sesquipedalian loquaciousness"... LOL... I'm not sure I wanna look it up in the dictionary! :)

Love the new header!

I would love to receive an obituary like this. This woman seems to have lived and enjoyed every moment of her life. She was loved.
And as they say “Life is not a journey to the grave with intentions of arriving safely in a pretty well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming ... WOW! What a ride!”
She obviously did this!!

sesquipedalian, I had to google it...long winded ha ha h ah ha.

I bet she was a riot to be around. I too, have never seen an obit like that. Wow! Well it seems she was well liked, and loved. In the end, isn't that pretty much what we all would like?
